class of 2004

The children you see here are the very first SmartKids. Thirty five of them and they are in different age categories. Some started at JSS (Junior Secondairy School) and some to SSS (3 years). Most of them received their education at the Angel Educational Complex.

Rashid Abdulai

I am Rashid Abdulai a student of Ahwia a L/A Junior Secondary School. I was still young when I lost my father through a lorry accident. Owing to that reason I was not able to continue my education until my teachers suggested that, I should stay with a friend’s grandfather so that they may help me a little. I am very privileged to be a member of the Dutch Smartkids Foundation at this juncture, I promise I will by hook or crook, try my best to achieve my ambition of being a marine engineer if God permits.

Shadrack Donkor

My name is Shadrack Donkor. I attend school at Salvation Army Primary at Obuasi- Dansi. I have been performing very well in all my class subjects. I am among of the best three children. Unfortunately, my parents are very poor and can no longer cater for my school fees. They have asked me to do odd jobs to gather some money to continue my education. My father is farmer. In future I want to be a University Professor.

Bright Kwaku Adjei

I have completed primary 6 at Emmanuel Preparatory School. I have been performing well in English, Mathematics, and integrated Sci. I’m number three in my class. Unfortunately, my parents are poor that they asked me to do odd jobs such as selling of ice water and other items so that they can help me in schooling or education. I will like to be a Medical Doctor in the future to be able to help people especially the old ones in the near future

Marian Boakye Turkson

I come from Cape Coast in the central region. I am fifteen years old and I live with my mother who sells ice water. Days that we are unable to sell enough, it means that I will not be allowed to go to school the next day. Because we depend on the sales of the water for our survival. My aim of going to school is to become a doctor in the future, and I believe that the only possibility of achieving my aim is through the Smartkids programme, as my parents cannot afford the cost of education.

Helina Acheampong

Geboortedatum: 31 oktober 1987. Vader: Mr. Samuel Frimpong ( boer, verbouwt mais ) Moeder: Mrs. Comfort Nyametye ( helpt haar man op het land) Helina heeft nog drie broers en vier zusters. Zij woont bij haar grootouders. Ze ziet haar ouders alleen in de vakanties, want deze werken haar schoolgeld voor de eerst drie maanden te kunnen betalen. In januari moet het tweede termijn schoolgeld worden betaald en dat hebben ze niet. Helina zit op de Yaa Asantewa Secondary school in Kumasi.

Atulley Elizabeth

My name is Atulley Elizabeth and I am sixteen years old. I come from Kandiga in the Upper East region of Ghana. I completed my basic education at Esreso D/A J.S.S. in the Bosomtwe Atwima Kwanwoma District and made an aggregate six [06]. I want to become a medical doctor in future and for that matter chosen to offer Science at the S.S.S if I get help and further my education. I am saying this because I stay with only one of my parents ( parents have divorced and that is my mother. She has no good work to finance me to the S.S.S. She has asked me to stop schooling because she cannot afford the fees at the S.S.S. and the one who sponsored me at the J.S.S. is not continuing this time because he also says he cannot afford. I have always wanted to graduate at the University and become a medical doctor but there is no help for me.

Konka Matthew

I am Konka Matthew from Bolgatanga but stay at Kintampo. My parents are Mr. and Mrs Konka. I attend school at Kintampo, St. Joseph Roman Catholic. I am about 15 years old. My hobbies are reading, playing football and volleyball. I completed primary six and I will like to further my education up to the University level. If I complete school, I will like to be Computer engineer, and my problem is that I don’t have somebody to look after me to complete school to the level I want.

Emmanuel Asigire Nyaaba

I am Emmanuel Asigire Nyaaba from Bolgatanga but stay at Kintampo. My parents are Mr. and Mrs. Aziko. I attend Kintampo Saint Joseph Roman Catholic School. I am about 17 years old. My hobbies are reading, playing football and volley. I just completed primary six and I will like to further my education up to the University level. If I complete school, I will like to be an Accountant. My problem is that my parents are old and poor. And my mother is often sick and so cannot do any hard work. That is my problem.

Kwaku Boateng

My name is Kwaku Boateng. I come from Darbaa in the Ashanti Region I was attending Darbaa S.D.A. J.S.S. I don’t have anyone to sponsor my education. Yet I want to become a planer in the future.Please I need to some one to sponsor my education. I want to be an engineer.

Cecillia Quaicoe

My name is Cecilia Quaicoe. I stay at Obuasi New Nsuta and I come from Bekwai in the Ashanti region. I am fifteen years of age.. My mother’s name is Adwoa Adutwumwaa and my father’s name is Anthony Quaicoe and I have four siblings including Both mother and father are dead. I am currently staying with my aunt I have completed my J.S.S. level The game I like best is ludo and my hobby is reading. I attend Roman Catholic Church at Obuasi opposite the Total filling station. I wish to become a journalist.

Lord Cudjoe

I am Lord Cudjoe. I completed school at Agona D/C J.S.S. Infact, I am one of the most intelligent and deligent student in my school. I want to be a pilot in future. But unfortunately for me I lost my father eleven years ago. In addition, my mother has also abandoned me; therefore I have no helper again. Please I need your help.

Frederick Baidoo

I am Frederick Baidoo. I just finished Praso International J.S.S. and had an aggregate of 6. Infact, I have been either second or third in the ten subjects e.g Mathematics, Pre- Vocational Skills, Pre-Technical Skills, English Language etc. I come from a poor family and it is difficult for my father to pay for my school fees because my mother is no more marrying my father. I sometimes have to do some odd jobs during the holidays in order to get some money to assist what my father has to pay for my fees and buy some books in addition. In future I want to an Accountant.

Ruth Millon Laar

I am Ruth Millon Laar.I come from Najong Number 1 from the North. I was born in Buom, avllage at Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo region. I am seventeen years of age. My father’s name is Mr. Emmanuel Amidu Laar and my mother’s name is Mrs. Faustina Sarfo. My father was a police officer and my mother is not having any job doing. My father is working at Winneba depot. But he had an accident at Winneba depot and finally died at Winneba police hospital. Because of the death of my father, I stopped schooling for sometime. Therefore, because of that I repeated the class, which I was, before my father died. Due to financial problems, it was my grandmother was taking care of me. Now she has died before my results came. And now my mother is not doing any job and she is not having anyone who is helping her. As at now my mother and I are living with my grandmother in a rented thatch house. Because there is no money and I owe the school, I have not yet gone for my results as at now and even dresses that I will wear is a problem and food to eat is a problem. Since my father died, my mother has not gotten a helper, so it was my grandmother who was helping me in food, clothing and school fees but now she has died. So I don’t have any one who will look after my school. As at now too, there is no money to continue my education. So please I need help. Wants to be a journalist.

Joseph Kwame Nature

I am called Joseph Kwame Nature. I have just completed Junior Secondary School with an aggregate eleven (11). Infact I am from a poor family and it is quite difficult for my parents to pay for my school fees. Thus, the continuation of my education. I even have to do some addition jobs during the weekends to support my feeding whilst at school. Some Good Samaritan teachers sometimes use their own pocket money to pay for my needs. In future (sometime to come) I would like to be a doctor (Medical Doctor).

Adjei Kyerewaah Mary

My name is Adjei Kyerewaah Mary. I completed my J.S.S. at Independence at Brahabebome a suburb of Obuasi. Infact I come from a very poor family, which we find it difficult to get even money for our daily meals. And when it comes to the educational background, is the worst of all. I will be sent to the farm early in the morning and get some food for the family before going to school. I want to continue my education onto a higher level and become a teacher in the near future. I am good in acedamic performance. I am the 5th or 6th in class. Please need your assistance.

Isaac Frimpong

My name is Isaac Frimpong. I am seventeen years old. I just completed St. Thomas R/C J.S.S. and had aggregate eight in my final examination and I have been either first or second in all subjects in our class. I would like to continue my education but parent (guardian) cannot afford that because they are not financially strong and even I have to work for some income before I go to school. But I would like to continue my education to University. I would like to become a medical doctor in future.

Alhassan Aliu Ibrahim

Alhassan Aliu Ibrahim is my name. I just completed Twifu Praso J.S.S. with aggregate 6. My father is a farmer and mother a petty trader. Actually, I am always the first or with the first in my class. I come from a very poor family who even finds it very difficult to make ends meet. It is even worst when it comes to education. Paying of my school fees in school was a catastrophe. I always sacked from class due to the fact that I don’t get money to pay my fees. I am compelled to do all sort of work to get little money to go to school. Feeding is a problem to me in school. I want to become a lawyer in future.

Alasane Rahatu

I am Alasane Rahatu. I am 14 years old. I attend Tamale International School. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers. I am the oldest of the six of us. I want to become a Plant Biologist in future Sometimes my father finds it difficult to pay my fees but he couldn’t let drop out because he wanted me to have a good education. So he did all his best till I finished J.S.S. and now I am happy to be part of the Smartkids program because I don’t have to worry about fees anymore.

Sarah Mensah

Sarah Mensah is my name. I am 17 years of age. I come from Akrokerri in the Adansi West region. I am light in complexion, breight and with pointed nose and friendlyto all sort of people. I attend Emmanuel Preparatory School which is in Akrokerri-Adansi and completed with aggregate 16. I was fourteen years of age when I stay with my uncle at Akrokerri. My father who is Mr. Osmond was once a Prestea mines worker and my mother Mrs. Comfort Mensah a petty trader. My father got injured and was discharged from the mines. For that matterwe came back to our hometown that is Akrokerri. My mother went to my uncle who was once an AGC worker to beg him to cater for my J.S.S. level and he did so. But my uncle was discouraged now from the AGC mines and so I had to come to my parents. But my parents are not working even for the evening meal we suffer before we get. My father has gone everywhere but he does not get work. So please kindly help me to continue my S.S.S. education.

Duah Comfort

My name is Duah Comfort. I am 16 years of age. I live in New Edubiase. My parents have 7 children and they can not take care of all of us. That is why I live with my grandmother; she also can not take good care of me and wants me to find a job. But I want to be a Human Rights Lawyer and my school results are very good.

Daud Issah Osman

Daud ñIssah Osman is my name I attend Praso Model J S. S .I am sixteen years of age. I was one of the candidates who sat for the Basic Education certificate Examination and had aggregate 08. I am hard working and intelligent, always number three in my class. My father is old sick and cannot work to financially support me in my school. My mother sells cassava before she can get something to pay my school fees. During vacations, I have to offer labour on people’s farm to get some money to support what my mother will be making. Unfortunately, for me, my mother died when I was about to write my B.E.C.E this year. Nevertheless, thank God I can lean on Smartkids Foundation in Ghana. My hope of continuing my education to the Senior Secondary School (SSS) would have been dashed. Moreover, my intentions of becoming a mining Engineer would never have been realised.

Arhin Matilda

Arhin Matilda is my name. I live at Twifu Mampong in the Central Region of Ghana I am 17 years of age. I attended school at Holy Spirit J S.S. at Twifu Mampong. I am the 3rd born child of my parents my parents are both farmers. I want to be an economic planner in a big office in future. I am a girl with a very good character who has been rendering services to people to earn my living. What makes me needy is that, my parents have divorced. , I had to stop schooling for sometime because of the separation. Because I was always number one in my class somebody decided to take up the financing of my education to complete J S.S. where I made aggregate 07. But this lady says the cost of the SSS is too much for her. Yet I thought I could study further.

Andrews Kwarteng

My name is Andrews Kwarteng I was born on 7th September 19987 at akrokerri. I think I musst be helpe because my parents are poor and they even find it very difficult to take care of my sissters and me. I am seventeen years of age. I attended junior secondary scool in ebenezer J S. S in Akrokerri. Iwant to be a doctor in the near future. Malaria is a very deadly disease, which is killing most of the people in the world expecially Africa. So I want to become and to help educate the people about this disease.

Thomas Kangah

I am Thomas kangah from Atuabo. I am fifteen years of age My mothers name is Jemima toffey and truly I have never seen him before. It is my grandmother mrs Elizabeth toffey a retired tedcher who took care of me from my infant up till this time concerinng my mothe affairs I always feel pity when I jobless and it is just a few months that she had got employment. Baidoo Smith

Baidod Smith is my name I am a boy of sixteen years of age. I attended Adukrorn M /A Junior Secondary School and made an aggregate nine (9) in my final results. During my basic education, I have to work within the weekends to save towards my educational needs and to pay my school fees. This is how I was able to finance my Basic education. However, it is very clear that, if I am not assisted I cannot continue my education due to high cost. I am also from a broken home currently living with my mother who is a peasant farmer. She has advised that, I should stop schooling and help her work on the farm for about two years to raise some money before I can continue. I am willing to become an accountant in future to help people like me to be able to manage their resources.

Marcus Garvey Parley

Marcus Garvey Parley is my name. I am fourteen years of age and I come from Wakii in the Upper East Region of Ghana, resident in Kumasi. I was born a twin brother to the family of Mr. Clement Parley and Madam Hawa. My twin brother is Ernesto. Our mother left us when we were only three years old, so our father took care of us but death laid his icy hands July this year him when we were fourteen years old. I am in Junior Secondary School form II living with my unemployed uncle. My ambition of becoming a pilot in the future cannot be realised under this current circumstances. Nevertheless, I am very grateful to be enrolled in this programme of Smartkids Ghana, that has promised to finance my education in making my dreams come true. I am glad that I can already see myself also helping other children in my situation in the future.

Ernesto Cheyueravera Parley

My name is Ernesto Cheyueravera Parley. I am boy of fourteen years of age who comes from Wakii in the Upper east Region of Ghana in West Africa. I am a twin and my twin brother is called Marcus Garvey. We were born to the family of Mr. Clement Parley and madam Hawa, unfortunately, our mother abandoned us when were barely three years old. Our father took care of us until 28th July, 2004 when he suddenly died in a motor accident. As at now our unemployed uncle is caring for us My ambition is to become an architectural engineer and am grateful that I can also lean on the Smartkids programme to achieve this goal in the future.
