Amsterdam Triathlon 2016 for the SmartKids Foundation

On Sunday June 26th, 2016  is Amsterdam the place to be. The ICAN organises the ICAN Amsterdam Triathlon  on that day. The triathlon is a sponsor run for various charity and non-profit organisations.

Wouter Hazenberg, Chairman of the SmartKids Foundation, and four more tri-athletes charge the Amsterdam roads, parks and canals during the ICAN Triathlon.

Four athletes will run the Olympic distances: (1.5 km swim, 45 km bike, 10 km run) and Wouter, the chairman, takes on the half triathlon (1.9 km swim, 90 km bike and 21 km run).

The purpose is to raise at least 2,500 Euro for the SmartKids Foundation in order to provide five talented SmartKids in Ghana the opportunity to complete their Senior High School.

The SmartKids Foundation’s goal is to maximize the impact of its contributions by sponsoring the education of talented children that would otherwise not receive an education. This not only improves their knowledge, skills and future employability, they will also develop into motivated leaders, making a huge impact on their families, communities and country. The ultimate goal of the project is to be self sustaining and self expanding, as the SmartKids  sign a pledge stating they are co responsible for the continuity of the foundation, both organizationally and financially, for the rest of their lives.

The SmartKids Foundation is convinced that education is THE key to success in life !

Of course we hope to raise the 2,500 euro and even more. It would be great if you can help us reaching our target.

Please donate any amount on either the action or directly to one of the five athletes.  It is as easy as pressing one button:

May-Dah-Say, Ton

TON W b

Last week we had to say goodbye to our former Chairman AJCM (Ton) Willekens.

We got the sad message that he suddenly passed away in Montreal, Canada on October 14th at the age of 71.

Ton was enjoying a holiday in Canada when he was struck by heart failure. Ton Willekens was chairman of the SmartKids Foundation from 2005 till February 2014. During his chair he guided the foundation through a very difficult period characterized by the global recession. His vision, guidance, network and financial support was of great influence on the SmartKids organization.

At the age of 70, Ton decided to throttle down a bit from his very active life. Ton retired from our board and a number of other social activities to be able to spent more quality time with his wife Brigite. Unfortunately this period did not by far  last long enough.

The SmartKids familyTON W presspapier wishes Ton’s family all the strength in this coming period.

Ton will be missed on many places.

May-Dah-Say , Thank You Very Much,  Rest In Perfect Peace.

Rabobank Chess Challenge 2014

Rabobank Chess Challenge On 4 December 2014 a chess challenge was organized by a group of Rabobank Trainees. Julia, a 24 year old Chess Master competed against 30 Rabobank employees of all ages in 10 simultaneous games. After a marathon match lasting more than 5 hours, with some very close matches, the chess prodigy won all the games. In total almost EUR 965 was raised for the SmartKids Foundation. The SmartKids Foundation would like to thank Rabobank, the organizing committee, the sponsors and of course Julia for organizing this great event, creating awareness of the SmartKids Foundation and raising the funds! Please see below an impression of the great atmosphere and an overview of the match results.
